SWW2 Collaborative Doctoral Award: The Role of Independent Cinema in the Age of On-Demand Culture
Megan Mitchell is an independent film programmer and exhibitor with an interest in accessibility for working-class young audiences and D/deaf audiences. Her current research, in partnership with UWE, University of Exeter and Watershed, focuses on the roles of independent cinemas in the age of on-demand culture.
Megan co-founded Cage-a-rama and KeanuCon and produced Weird Weekend as Producer of Matchbox Cineclub. Megan has delivered industry-focused sessions on access, including ticket pricing, captions, and young audiences, for the Independent Cinema Office, Film Hub Scotland, Film Hub South West, the British Council, and the British Film Institute. Megan received her Master’s degree from the University of Glasgow having completed a thesis on Valley Girl (1983).
